ACES Sampling Systems

Ambient temperature sampling system for electrochemical sensors The Perma Pure ACES™ systems prepare gas samples for analysis by electro-chemical sensor (ECS) analyzers when the sample is too humid for analysis but not condensing at ambient temperature.

ECS analyzers suffer reliability problems when the sample is either too wet or too dry. ACES systems reduce sample humidity to the ideal range for ECS (typically 30-70%RH), while also removing any dust or dirt particles present. Incorporating a Perma Pure model MD-070-12P Nafion® membrane dryer, disposable 0.1 micron pre-filter, and integral sample pump, the ACES systems offer full corrosion resistance and very high selectivity, allowing complex samples to be processed without loss of analyte.

The ACES system is very easy to operate. Simply connect the ECS diffusion cell to the sample outlet of the ACES unit, then connect the sampling cell outlet back to the sample return port on the ACES. The ACES pump continuously draws the sample through the ECS, providing quick response time.

System power is supplied by a standard 120 or 240VAC circuit. If electrical power is not available or the system is to be installed in a hazardous area, an air driven version is also available. All models are housed in NEMA 3R housings that measure 12"W x 7"H x 6"D and has a clear hinged cover for convenient inspection of the flow rate and disposable filter. No tools are required for replacement of the filter or panel mounted fuse. Vertical installation is required for proper operation of the flowmeter. Wall mounting feet are supplied with the unit.

Typical applications includes ambient monitoring of humid environments such as those found in wastewater treatment plants or at landfills.

Ambi-GASS

Ambient temperature sample conditioning system Ambi-GASS™ systems prepare non-condensing, ambient temperature gas samples for analysis.

Even when the water content of the gases is not condensing, water can interfere with analyses or contribute to corrosion and maintenance problems. Ambi-GASS systems typically provide dew points from -15 to -25°C.

Nafion dryers in Ambi-GASS units provide full corrosion resistance and very high sample selectivity, so water-soluble gases are not lost from complex samples,

Ambi-GASS enclosures are fully sealed and corrosion-resistant (NEMA-4X) so they can be mounted in harsh environments. They require no electrical power and are intrinsically safe in hazardous areas.

Typical applications include ambient monitoring of humid environments such as those found at water treatment plants, at landfills, or in tunnels.

GASS™-2040 Sampling System

The GASS-2040 conditions high-flow, high-moisture samples, eliminating acid mists or ammonia if present. It processes the toughest samples, with flows of up to 25 liters per minute and moisture contents in excess of 50%. The GASS-2040 can be mounted anywhere, including on the stack flange with an integral stack probe, which eliminates heated sample lines.

The GASS-2040 System Design The GASS-2040 contains three temperature-controlled zones mounted in an environmentally sealed, NEMA-4X housing. In the first zone, the sample passes through a heat exchanger, then through a coalescing particulate filter to remove particles down to 0.1 micron. Acid mists, if present, are coalesced then removed by an automatic drain. If ammonia is present, a proprietary ammonia scrubber removes it.

In the second zone, the sample passes through a proprietary Nafion® dryer. The initial portion of the dryer is heated above the sample dew point to prevent condensation and to create greater water vapor removal.

In the third zone, the sample passes through the remainder of the dryer, further reducing the dew point down as low as -25°C, depending upon dryer model selected and sample flow rate. The system PLC with optional Ethernet connection for remote and flow controls for the dryer purge gas. Optional accessories, if required, such as a sample pump or pressure-swing air dryer for the purge air are also mounted here. This zone operates at ambient temperature so these controls and accessories do not overheat.

When an integral sampling probe is added, the GASS-2040 can be mounted right on the stack flange. The probe filter and blowback assembly are mounted inside the GASS-2040, and the system PLC controls filter temperature and blowback timing. Conditioning the sample immediately after it leaves the stack improves its analytical calibration times, saving calibration gases.

GM-Series GASS Module

Modular Gas Analysis Sampling System designed for Systems Integrators

The GASS-Module is a cost-effective approach to gas sample conditioning that removes water, particulates and coalescable liquids from gas samples while retaining analyte gases.

GASS Modules bring maximum performance at minimal cost to systems integrators and OEM manufacturers of gas analysis systems by deferring all control to the central system, eliminating any electronics in the module and reducing the size and complexity of the device.

Unlike chiller/condensers that remove water by condensation, GASS Modules very selectively remove water directly from the vapor phase using patented Nafion® membrane dryers. Consequently, water-soluble analyte gases are not lost through dissolution in the condensate, and the water content of the sample is reduced to a much lower dew point. Drying is a continuous, self-regenerating process. No routine maintenance is required.

GASS Modules also eliminate acid mist problems with an integral coalescing filter with automatic drain to remove sulfuric acid. GASS Modules can be integrated inside environmental enclosures or indoors along with analyzers, since they consume little space.

GASS Modules accept samples containing as much as 75% water at rates up to 12 liters per minute and temperatures as high as 150°C. Particulates down to 1µm are removed, sulfuric acid mists are eliminated, and water content is reduced to a dew point as low as -35°C, while oxides of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur are quantitatively retained within the sample.

Micro-GASS

The Micro-GASS™ systems prepare gas samples for analysis by electro-chemical sensor (ECS) analyzers when the sample is hot and wet. These sensors are a very reliable means of detecting the presence of toxic or explosive compounds in a gas stream but in moisture-saturated samples, sensor life is greatly reduced due to condensation within the cell and subsequent leakage of electrolyte. ECS can also be used with corrosive samples like stack gases, but also suffer reliability problems when the sample humidity is too wet. The Micro-GASS system reduces sample humidity to the ideal range for ECS, typically 30 to 70% R.H., while also removing any dust or dirt particles present.

Micro-GASS units offers full corrosion resistance and very high selectivity, so complex samples can be processed without loss of analyte gases. Nafion dryer technology is the driving force behind this system. Operating as a self-contained unit, the Micro-GASS incorporates a built-in sample pump to draw the sample gas through a 0.1µ filter then into a MD-Series™ Nafion gas dryer where water vapor is absorbed into and through the membrane walls. The dried sample then flows to the sensor where the measurement is made. After exhausting from the ECS, the gas passes through a needle valve and expands, causing a reduction in vapor pressure. It then re-enters the dryer to be used as a purge gas. Because the purge gas is generated from the exhaust stream of the sensor, it makes the Micro-GASS a self-regenerating and transportable conditioning system, relying only on a power source.

Typical applications for the Micro-GASS sample conditioning system include monitoring of boiler and burner efficiencies.

Mini-GASS Sampling Systems

Mini-GASS™ systems prepare hot gas sample streams for high performance gas analysis. Our most popular systems, Mini-GASS units remove particles, acid mists, and water vapor from a gas stream without the loss of analytes.

Many gas analyzers suffer performance degradation and maintenance problems due to clogging and corrosion when water or water vapor reaches the equipment. Mini-GASS systems remove water to well below the condensation point, typically providing dew points as low as -25C.

Mini-GASS units offer several options and configurations, including mounting directly on the stack so very little heated line is used. For explosive environments, a Class I, Division II version is available. An automatic drain installed on the filter will remove acid mists. A sample pump can be incorporated to make a completely self-contained system.

Mini-GASS systems are ideal for process and continuous emissions monitoring (CEMS) applications. They are designed to process highly corrosive and difficult samples including gas streams containing high levels of HCl, HF, NOx or SOx.

Zero-Air Generator

Bring "Zero" air to the point of use without handling bulky and hazardous compressed gas cylinders. The Zero-Air generator produces up to 18 liters per minute of purified air with just the flip of a switch. Compounds treated include CO, NOx, SOx, water vapor, hydrocarbons, acid vapors, odors, and bacteria. Best of all, the unit is totally self-contained in a convenient portable case. Portability is enhanced by its light weight (27lbs), build-in carrying handle, and lack of protrusions outside the case. An internal Nafion gas dryer dries the air to a 0C dew point or better, depending on pressure and flow settings. A fixed purge stream is produced by expanding a portion of the dried gas exiting the dryer.

The Zero-Air generator only requires connection to standard 110 VAC power to operate. The internal compressor will supply up to 18 liters per minute of compressed air. The maximum pressure of the air is internally regulated to 30 psig. A panel mounted flow meter and pressure gauge indicate compressor output.
